ECN NON-EMD Certification and Recertification
Requirements for ECN Non-EMD Certification in The Emergency Communication Nurse System
- Emergency Communication Nurse Non-EMD certification occurs through the International Academy of ECN (through the IAED – International Academies of Emergency Dispatch).
- ECN Certification is a 3-day course for Registered Nurses with unencumbered licenses to practice in their respective state.
- Nurses must attend the entire 3-day certification course and pass a 50-item examination at 80% or better in order to achieve certification.
Requirements for ECN Non-EMD recertification in The Emergency Communication Nurse System
- Recertification is required every two years.
- Recertification occurs through the International Academy of Emergency Communication Nursing (through the IAED – International Academies of Emergency Dispatch).
- Recertification occurs after the currently certified ECN Non-EMD passes a 50-item ECN Recertification examination at a score of 80% or better.
- Nurses must submit the required Continuing Education and Dispatch requirements as specified by the IAED. REQUIRED CE HOURS: 24 hours (General Nursing: 12 hours and ECN-Related: 12 hours).
- Nurses or their respective agency must submit the required fees to the IAED at the time of the application for ECNS Recertification.
- Nurses must maintain an active and unencumbered license to practice in their respective state.
