ECN NON-EMD Certification and Recertification

Requirements for ECN Non-EMD Certification in The Emergency Communication Nurse System

  1. Emergency Communication Nurse Non-EMD certification occurs through the International Academy of ECN (through the IAED – International Academies of Emergency Dispatch). 
  2. ECN Certification is a 3-day course for Registered Nurses with unencumbered licenses to practice in their respective state. 
  3. Nurses must attend the entire 3-day certification course and pass a 50-item examination at 80% or better in order to achieve certification.

Requirements for ECN Non-EMD recertification in The Emergency Communication Nurse System 

  1. Recertification is required every two years.
  2. Recertification occurs through the International Academy of Emergency Communication Nursing (through the IAED – International Academies of Emergency Dispatch). 
  3. Recertification occurs after the currently certified ECN Non-EMD passes a 50-item ECN Recertification examination at a score of 80% or better.
  4. Nurses must submit the required Continuing Education and Dispatch requirements as specified by the IAED.  REQUIRED CE HOURS: 24 hours (General Nursing: 12 hours and ECN-Related: 12 hours).
  5. Nurses or their respective agency must submit the required fees to the IAED at the time of the application for ECNS Recertification.
  6. Nurses must maintain an active and unencumbered license to practice in their respective state.
