ECN-Q Certification and Recertification
- ECN-Q Certification occurs through the International Academy of Emergency Communication Nursing (through the IAED – International Academies of Emergency Dispatch).
- ECN-Q Certification is a 2-day course for Registered Nurses with unencumbered licenses to practice in their respective state.
- Nurses must have completed their Emergency Communication Nurse certification prior to taking this course.
- Nurses must have a current CPR certification.
- ECNs must attend the entire 2-day certification course and pass the examination at 80% or better in order to achieve certification.
- Recertification is required every two years.
- ECN-Qs DO NOT need to recertify as both ECNs and ECN-Qs, only as an ECN-Q and EMD. (ECN content is built into the ECN-Q Recertification Exam.)
Requirements for ECN-Q Recertification
- Recertification occurs through the International Academy of Emergency Communication Nursing (through the IAED – International Academies of Emergency Dispatch).
- Recertification occurs after the currently certified ECN-Q passes a 50-item ECN Recertification examination at a score of 80% or better and an EMD Recertification Exam of 80% or better.
- ECN-Qs must have completed the specified completed case reviews as required by the IAED.
- Nurses must submit the required Continuing Education and Dispatch requirements as specified by the IAED.
- Nurses or their respective agency must submit the required fees to the IAED at the time of the application for ECN-Q Recertification.
- Nurses must maintain an active and unencumbered license to practice in their respective state.
- Nurses must maintain a current CPR certification.
